Young Scientist Challenge Finalists Announced -Stone is There!

Two Brevard Middle School students are among 40 national finalists selected to compete for the title “Top Young Scientist of the Year” and more than $100,000 worth of scholarships and prizes. Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High had one of the two national finalist and we at Stone Middle School are proud to announce the second finalist is one of our own!

Almas (who is now in the ninth grade but did her research project here at Stone Middle School last year) was selected to travel to Washington, D.C. October 21-25, 2006 to compete for the coveted prize. She was selected from a group of 400 talented semi-finalists nationally. Semi-finalists were chosen from 2,000 invited applicants, out of a pool of 75,000 top student scientists across the nation.

Often described as the "Nobel Prize for Research Students", the Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge is the nation’s premier science competition for middle school students.

Stone is the only school in Florida to have had a Discovery Young Scientist National Winner (in 2001).
