Students with outstanding efforts in scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character were inducted to the National Junior Honor Society and/or the National Junior Beta Club on April 28th, 2010. The pictures accompanying this article include pictures of the NJHS working on the planters in our school courtyard. They weeded, cleaned up trash and planted flowers as a service project. Honoring Heros and Remembering the Struggle for Equality

The following students did a terrific job on a theatrical presentation for Black History month. Stone conducted two assemblies and these students did dramatic readings of famous African Americans. Thanks for helping us remember the struggle for equality among races and providing a window into American History.

eCybermission Teams Attend Army Science Conference in Orlando

Stone Middle’s eCybermission teams spent November 29th learning about astonishing new U.S. Army technologies at the 25th Annual Army Science Conference at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. Teams were treated to presentations by Nobel Laureate Dr. Leon Lederman (Director Emeritus at Fermilab) as well as other distinguished speakers.
eCybermission is a free, webbased, math and technology competition for students in grades 6 though 9. Students teams identify a problem in their community that is related to heath and safety, arts and entertainment, sports and recreation or the environment. Potential prizes include up to $8,000 in U.S. savings bond.

Participant Kayla J. reflected upon her experience: "The conference was interesting because I learned how they were planning to improve student's education in the future. I was also able to see how the technology that the army uses has changed over the years."
Mason W. said "It was interesting to see the new inventions that the army was coming out with- one particular one was the future uniforms that use nano-technology that made a flexible, breathable fabric turn into a plate that was bulletproof."

Stone Choice Program Director Richard Regan organized the trip for the eCybermission Team members at Stone Middle School. Mrs. Regan and Mr. Campbell helped chaperone the event.

Make Strides against Breast Cancer!

Twenty-one Stone Middle School students (BETA and FBLA members) joined other community members in the Make Strides against Breast Cancer walk at BCC's Melbourne Campus on October 7th.

Ms. Magloire, BETA sponsor notes that it was a lot of fun connecting with ex-stonites (including a former Stone Teacher, Ms. Naujock!).

She was real pleased at the student turnout and also that many parents joined in to spend their Saturday morning raising the public's awareness against breast cancer.

A 5K walk becomes quite memorable when it is a collective effort between students, parents and teachers (Mr. Tritt, Ms. Naujock, Mrs. Mccrary, Ms. Loyd, Ms. Magloire). Special thanks to Katie Smith and her mother for allowing us to be part of their amazing team "Pretty in Pink".

As Ms. Magloire says: thems "...Can't get hit by a blindman kinda t-shirts!"

Working at the Carwash!!!

September 30th, Beta Clubmembers held their first fundraising event of 2006 at Stone Middle School.
In a smashing combination of hard work and fun, they raised over 500 dollars in 3 hours.

Part of this money will be used to buy their t-shirts, while the rest will be donated to causes such as breast cancer research and the Save Holly organization.

Thanks for being good citizens BETA!
