Erika is the first student since I have been at Stone Middle who received 2 judges awards from the Melbourne Art Festival! The organizers told me yesterday when I picked it up that it was accidentally put with high school work and the judges were surprised that it was a middle school student.
At the popular Melbourne Art Festival April 24th, 8 pieces were specially selected for display in two categories:
2-D Art Category:
Victoria S. Forgotten Bronze
Veronica R. Laces Lost in Lovely Land
Ellen S. Motorcycle Wheel
3-D Art Category;
Savannah F. The Act of Thinking Third Place
Ellen S. Seeds of Thought
Niki C. Self Portrait Honorable Mention
Taylor C. (Clay) The Stuff of Fairy Tales and Nightmares
Congratulations also to the individual Stone students who submitted their efforts in the 2-D Category:
We had quite a few students with enough high-quality work to display one-person shows this past Saturday at the Space Coast Art Festival in Cocoa Beach. Since they had to enter a number of works, this is a huge accomplishment - we are only in November!
The students that showed their work were:
Now on to the recognitions – Stone took First Place in 2 out of 3 categories for for Middle Schools – and in that third category we took the 2nd Place!
Ellen S. - Second place in 3-D
Veronica R. - First place in painting
Jerilynn F. - First place in drawing
Our students had people from the North end of the county asking about Stone – and they got to brag a little about their school. The winners' work will be on display for the next month in Cocoa Beach and winners took home prize money.
Also - by the way - the only person representing Palm Bay H.S. was a Stone Art Alum. She is in 10th grade and won with a piece in the high school category that she did in Advanced Art two years ago!
It is my honor to announce our four finalists for the attorney general's Anti-Drug Calendar contest....
Out of about 3,000 entries for each grade level, here are the results:
7th Grade Finalists:
8th Grade Finalists:
Jerilyn actually won first place for 8th graders in the county - her art will be featured in the calendar and she will be awarded with a U.S. Savings Bond.
Please congratulate them when you see them (how about those W.’s - a first time for Stone to have two siblings as the finalists?)!
