Only Team to Solve the Teamwork Challenge!

On Saturday, December 19, 2009, the Stone Robo Gophers competed in the GEMS Florida Lego League State Regional Qualifying Tournament at Gardendale Elementary in Merritt Island!

Stone Robo Gophers came in 2nd Place overall for their great performances in robot technical design, research presentation, robot performance, gracious professionalism, and teamwork, being the ONLY team to correctly solve the teamwork challenge.

They also won a bid to the Florida State FIRST LEGO League Regional Tournament in February. They are one of the 96 teams that has earned its way to the Florida Regional Competitions. This is a great
accomplishment as there are more than 300 FLL teams in Florida this year!!!

The Stone Robo Gophers did an awesome job! I am so proud on how they performed and behaved!!

Stone Shows Up at Space Coast Art Festival

Stone’s Art Teacher, Ms. Targee-Heid reports:
We had quite a few students with enough high-quality work to display one-person shows this past Saturday at the Space Coast Art Festival in Cocoa Beach. Since they had to enter a number of works, this is a huge accomplishment - we are only in November! Happy

The students that showed their work were:
Alex M.
Chelsea R.
Natalie B.
Amber G.
Lexi J.
Savannah F.

Now on to the recognitions – Stone took First Place in 2 out of 3 categories for for Middle Schools – and in that third category we took the 2nd Place!
Ellen S. - Second place in 3-D
Veronica R. - First place in painting
Jerilynn F. - First place in drawing

Our students had people from the North end of the county asking about Stone – and they got to brag a little about their school. The winners' work will be on display for the next month in Cocoa Beach and winners took home prize money.

Also - by the way - the only person representing Palm Bay H.S. was a Stone Art Alum. She is in 10th grade and won with a piece in the high school category that she did in Advanced Art two years ago!

Judges say "WOW! for Robo Gophers Robot Design

On November 21st the Stone Robo Gophers (the LEGO/Robotics Team) competed in the McNair Motion Commotion FLL State Regional Qualifying Tournament in Rockledge!

The Stone Robo Gophers did a great job and came in 1st Place in Technical and Robot Design. With this award the judges look for teams whose work stands out and makes them say “wow!”.

Judges interview teams to learn their strategies for solving missions and their understanding of the design process. They also evaluate the robot’s mechanical design, degree of innovation, and programming effectiveness to further assess overall design quality.

We had a GREAT day and the team continues to make Stone proud! Check out their unique trophy in the front office.

They participated in hands on projects with topics in:
