Stone Alumni Rock the Stone Science Fair!

On January 21st, 35 alumni from Stone Middle School’s Science research program returned to the hallowed halls of their former school to judge this year’s Stone Middle School Science Fair. Stone Staff, administration and Science Research teachers are very appreciative of these young experts tackling the difficult job of interviewing approximately 80 seventh and eighth grade students, and then deciding who in each group has the best research design and understanding of their project.

The Stone Middle School Science Fair is a one day dress rehearsal amongst students that are enrolled in this elective course prior to the
main event – the Regional Science Fair held on January 29th and 30th in the Melbourne Square Mall. Here, our students will go head to head with over 300 other South Brevard students for place awards as well as cash and prizes.

Rich Regan, the lead Science Research teacher, began the tradition of holding a Stone Middle School Science Fair over two decades ago. It is a great way of continuing the education of our alumni as they revisit the learning objectives of their years at Stone, and apply them to new science research topics and problems. Former students have had personal first hand experience with the difficulties of developing and executing a science project. Current students appreciate the opportunity to be interviewed by their slightly older peers.
