More Place Awards Than All Other Schools Put Together- the Results of the Regional Science & Engineering Fair

Stone Middle School students once again filled the stage at the South Brevard Science and Engineering Fair. Dominating in nearly every category, Stone received more place awards (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places) than the total of all the other South Brevard schools put together. Another significant success, Stone Middle students nearly swept the Junior Division Best of Shows. Stone only competes in the Junior Division (Senior Division is 9th grade and up). There are four Junior Best of Show Awards. Stone received three of the four!

Here are the highlights:
58 students from Stone won place awards. That is more that all the other schools participating in junior division combined. The school with the second most awards had 10 - Stone students won almost 6 times as many place awards as any other middle school. Total place awards are as follows: 1st place - 7 students, 2nd place - 10, 3rd place 17 and 4th place 24 for a total of 58 students placing.

74.4% of the Stone students took a place award - that is a very high “success rate”.

Stone had 15 1st/2nd place awards, again more than all the other junior division schools combined. The school with the second most 1st/2nd places had 5.

We also had 7 students win bids to the State Science Fair in Orlando (again more than any other school). The state bid winners are: Almas A., Marie D., Cory D., Kyle F., Karah G., Carlee J. and Peeraya S.. These students will be representing Stone and Brevard County at the State Science and Engineering Fair April 19-22. These students will also attend the State Bid Winners trip to the Brevard Intracoastal Regional Fair on Friday 2/10/06.

Stone students also took both Best of Show awards and one of the two Alternate Best of Show awards. The Best of Show winners are:

Best of Show Biological Science: Marie D. - Isolating and Analyzing the Antimicrobial Properties of Grapefruit Pulp Extracts

Best of Show Physical Science: Almas A. - Universal Law for the Periodic Windows within Chaos in the Logistic Model for Biological Populations

Alternate Best of Show Physical Science: Carlee J. - Revisiting the Pathfinder Mission: Determining the Mission Readiness of Three Types of Robotic Rovers
