Byron G. - Won Honorable Mention at the School Board Art Show in Viera last week for his self portrait in acrylic paint on canvas entitled:  Layers

Melbourne Art Festival Student Competition
Stone entered 5 pieces and 4 won judges prizes!   This is a first for Stone as it is a very popular show with a lot of competition.

Zack M. – showed his photograph entitled The Chevrolet Wheel
Amy S. – won honorable mention in the graphic arts category with her piece Many Roads
Phala “Erika” M. – won second place in the graphic arts category with her drawing The Exact Handle Bar and received a check for $50
Raquel G. won third place in painting with her Self Portrait winning $25

Phala “Erika” M. – won first place for her self portrait Shades of Blue and received another check for $75.

 Erika is the first student since I have been at Stone Middle who received 2 judges awards from the Melbourne Art Festival!  The organizers told me yesterday when I picked it up that it was accidentally put with high school work and the judges were surprised that it was a middle school student.  Happy

eCybermission State Winners • 2013

eCybermission is a national science and technology competition sponsored by the US Army.
 
Stone ScienceResearch Students have won eCybermission regional and state level awards for the six years running.
 
This year we have two 7th grade teams taking state level awards:

 Team strawberry shortcake 2 as been selected as regional finalists, meaning they are one of the top four teams from the Southeast US, Europe, Pacific and Puerto Rico.  They will now compete to become National Finalists. National Finalists each receive a $2,000 prize and a fully expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.

Stone students have won $168,000 in the past 8 years competing in eCybermission and have been 1st place in the Nation two of those years.

Stone Researchers Prominent in State Awards!

The past week the 58th Florida State Science and Engineering Fair was held in Lakeland. The state science fair is the largest academic competition in Florida. The competition was intense, with almost 900 of the top science students from all over Florida competing for prizes and awards. Students also participated in field trips and a dance/mixer. The student mixer was held at the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa.
 
At this level in the science fair process, the students come from all around the state of Florida and all participants have received a 1st place at their regional science fair.

Stone science research students did extremely well, winning one 1st place award, four 2nd place awards, four 3rd place awards, one honorable mention and three recognition awards as well as several special awards.     Rich Regan, Stone Science Research Director

Future Problems Solvers State Winners

March 18 to the 20, Stone Middle School’s Future Problem Solving team participated in the annual state competition.

At the awards ceremony, Stone students did quite well. 8th grader, Isabel C., took third place in the group scenario writing competition and 7th grader, Tena G., took first place in the group scenario writing competition.

Before the competition, several students wrote scenarios and found out at the awards ceremony if they placed. 7th grader, Logan D., won 6th place in the middle school scenario writing contest. Isabel C. also won best writer in a group scenario.

Overall, Stone students did a fantastic job at the competition. Other participants: Isaiah T., Emma S., Emma B., and Urvesh A..
