There’s lots to learn about the foods we eat. Hopefully you have picked up a fact you didn’t know and can share it with family or friends. See you next month!

Pull up the website, www.ChooseMyPlate.gov and look for the many links to information on ways to apply this strategy. Basically, this plan asks you to eat the foods you enjoy, but just eat a little less of them. Make half of your plate fruits & vegetables. When you eat grains or grain products, make half of them from whole grains (brown rice or whole wheat bread, for example). Switch to fat free or low fat dairy products. Here in Brevard County, School Food Service has done this for you! That’s right; check those labels on your chocolate & strawberry milk! Both are fat free. We are serving skim milk in addition to our 1% white milk also.

On the website you will also find interactive tools, information about the different food groups, dietary guidelines and “Let’s Move”; the First Lady’s campaign to raise healthier kids.

Look for the 10 Tips Nutrition Education Series I will be posting on the serving lines throughout the year. We hope you will find the tips useful to help you on your way to a healthier you! Visit
